Maister’s Way

Published: 01.09.2021

Courageous, fearless, unusual, charismatic … Maister’s Way ought to be all of these. The general and poet Rudolf Maister was all of these. He boldly and decisively seized state and ethnic borders and laid the foundations for the modern Slovenian state. Nevertheless, he did not occupy a befitting place in Slovenian collective memory for a long time.

These days, we are concluding the virtual project Maister’s Way, which was conceived in 2017 by Alenka Juvan and Katarina Mahnič as part of a European project within the Europe for Citizens program. The current slightly changed and supplemented image was influenced by 15 participating institutions, together with a significant share of the Maister family. The main purpose of Maister’s path remained the same as it was: to connect the places where Maister lived and worked, and the institutions that hold any material or memory of him, with the help of the Internet. The website is operated by Novi splet d.o.o., and the animation and logo were provided by Ciril Horjak.

Participating institutions: Arhiv Republike Slovenije, Dolenjski muzej Novo mesto, družina Maister, Koroški pokrajinski muzej Slovenj Gradec, Gorenjski muzej, Medobčinski muzej Kamnik, Muzej novejše zgodovine Slovenije, Muzej novejše zgodovine Celje, Muzej narodne osvoboditve Maribor, Narodni muzej Slovenije, Narodna in univerzitetna knjižnica, Pokrajinski arhiv Maribor, Pokrajinski muzej Celje, Pokrajinski muzej Maribor, Univerzitetna knjižnica Maribor, Vojaški muzej Slovenske vojske, Zgodovinski arhiv Ptuj.
