HOW TO BECOME AN ARCHAEOLOGIST, Zaprice Castle Museum

Who are archaeologists, what do they do, how do they work, which tools do they use, what do they uncover? Find out all this and more at the workshop where you dig in an archaeological sandpit, make cups in a prehistoric manner, and learn how to glue and put together broken fragments. A cup reassembled in this way tells us the story about what it was used for.

PAINTING USING THE “MAJOLICA TECHNIQUE” AND PAINTING ON CERAMICS, Zaprice Castle Museum

Painting majolica jugs and other ceramics was characteristic of Kamnik. The tradition of making white clay ceramics in Kamnik can be followed from the mid-19th century onwards, and from the early 20th century onwards also the making and painting of majolica jugs. Painting on ceramics can be carried out in the museum workshop, led by an outside specialist.

HOW DID THEY LIVE?, Zaprice Castle Museum

Prehistoric age. Grind grain using a hand mill, learn weaving on a loom and how to make a house by interweaving branches.

Roman period. At a lecture you learn about Rome and Roman culture; you then dress in Roman clothes (tunics and togas) and go to a Roman school where you learn maths and Latin. Make a clasp and/or a broach, a mosaic using colourful mosaic pieces, a laurel wreath, Roman sandals, amulets (bullae); paint your own fresco, etc.

Middle Ages. Learn about the period, the way of life, about typical architecture and the social order. You will make your own seal, coat-of-arms, a craftsman’s symbol and sign, etc.

Modern Age. Using the puzzles Kamnik Villas and Garden Pavilions you will learn about town architecture and about the most important buildings in Kamnik.

The history of landscape painting goes back to Ancient Rome and can be traced right up until the present. After a short presentation, we look at the current-occasional exhibition and/or permanent exhibition and create the landscape around us (various techniques)

Reading and reciting Maister’s poetry, learning about his literary works and discussing their content. Learning about literature relating to Maister for adults and a picture book about Maister for children.

MAISTER CREATIVE WORKSHOPS, Rudolf Maister’s Birthplace

Using different artistic techniques, children produce a portrait of Rudolf Maister, as they see him through their own eyes; they can choose a museum object that they remember best and paint that; or they can create a family tree like the one at the exhibition, and so on. Children can sit in front of his birthplace with paper and crayons and draw houses and famous buildings in Šutna or walk to Maister’s monument, created in 1970 by the sculptor Anton Sigulin, and depict that.
