“…In her latest cycle, the painter turns her focus to the dog—humankind’s oldest and most devoted companion. Cadillac, Frida, Elvis, and others represent increasingly sought-after and, at the same time, prestigious breeds. With their expressive eyes, the portrayed animals reveal a gentle and authentic nature, yet simultaneously suggest confinement within a ‘golden’ cage, where they become servants to human behavior and to the desired image of beauty and cuteness.

She plays with the typography of Love, raising an enduring question about the relationship between humans and other living beings—is the dog a beloved companion or merely a decorative tribute, an ornament? The painter, for whom both the animal and plant worlds are untouchable, reflects on human decadence and asks how far humans may go with their careless actions and inability to consider the consequences of everything they do.

Jurkovšek’s animals do not pose before us as natural beings; they are here to reveal a distorted image (and humanity’s perception of them), thereby awakening deep emotions in those for whom nature remains sacred. Her theme also addresses the increasingly decadent contemporary mass production of both the necessary and the unnecessary, spreading across all areas of life. Her response lies in the necessity of recycling, consciously integrated into her artistic process—the portraits are painted on used jute sacks whose coarse texture provides space for her delicate drawing and her characteristic bold color scheme, which moves beyond the real toward the surreal and the fantastical.”
