Years of Fear - Slovenes and the First World War

On this first Maister’s evening in 2019, we will present a new book: Years of Fear – Slovenes and the First World War.
The theme of the First World War is inexhaustible, and its interest in it seems to grow over the years. Recently, when we remember important anniversaries and events, there is already a huge amount of books about this terrible period of Slovene and world history. One of them is the book entitled Years of Fear and the subtitle of Slovenes and the First World War, a fascinating research work, a comprehensive view of the great war with systematic and rich bibliography. The authors are dr. Petra Svoljšak and dr. Gregor Antoličič.
Dr. Petra Svoljšak studied history and English at the University in Ljubljana, and she also received a PhD from historical sciences. She is a scientific councilor, Head of the Milko Kos Institute of Historical Research, ZRC SAZU, associate professor at the Cultural History at the University of Nova Gorica. It explores the First World War, civilian population, refugees, occupation, everyday life. She is the author of several books on these topics. Recently, she received the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, the recognition of her efforts in the development of Hungarian-Slovenian scientific relations.
Dr. Gregor Antoličič graduated from the Department of History of the University of Maribor. He also received his doctorate with the theme of Maribor and the Southwest Front Command during the First World War. Since 2013, he has been employed as a young researcher at the Milko Kos Institute of Historical Research, ZRC SAZU. He edited the first original Slovene historical monograph of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph.
