Guided tour on the exhibition of Lojze Perko – Between Storm and Clarity

Gallery Miha Maleš
When: 09.06.2021, from 18:00 to 19:00

In 1936, at the age of twenty-seven, Lojze Perko enrolled at the State Men’s Craft School in Ljubljana, where he was taught and guided in sculpture and painting by Professor France Kralj. At first, he became even more enthusiastic about sculpture, but in the end he only turned to painting. He finished school in Ljubljana in 1939 and wanted to continue it at the Zagreb Academy of Arts, where he was not accepted due to his age. Therefore, in 1940 he left his homeland and continued his studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Arts in Sofia. Due to World War II, he had to return home in 1941 and postpone his studies until the end of the war. In 1949 he graduated at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade. He also finished a special course with the Montenegrin painter prof. Petar Lubarda.

Although Perko was born in Notranjska region, he was very friendly and creative in Dolenjska region. Therefore, we paid special attention to the presentation of works recorded in Dolenjska, namely in the family legacies of Perko’s former friends and acquaintances. There are also some works on display that are owned by the Dolenjska Museum and have never been exhibited before.

At the opening of the exhibition, curator Katarina Dajčman said: “that Lojze Perko’s attitude towards the world has always been realistic: In this way, in works marked by unsatisfied creative restlessness, we can always reliably recognize a man torn between storm and clarity.”

Guided tour on the exhibition will be led by the author of the exhibition, Katarina Dajčman, curator of the Dolenjska Museum Novo mesto.
