THONET CHAIR SEAT WEAVING COURSE
The course will take place on four Saturdays — 19 September, 26 September, 3 October and 10 October 2026 — from 10 am to 2 pm.
Advance registration required: info@muzejkamnik.si
Under the guidance of Jan Rihar, who continues the collection and traditional knowledge of Jurij and Ilona Rihar from Škofja Loka, participants will learn the traditional seven-step chair seat weaving technique. Step by step, you will master the basics of weaving, after which, as with any traditional craft, comes practice, practice and more practice.
Please bring your own Thonet chair or armchair that you would like to restore. We can offer advice on choosing a suitable piece. It is important, however, that the furniture has already been repaired and cleaned before the course begins.

Organisers: Kamnik Intermunicipal Museum (MMK), Anton Melik Geographical Institute, Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (GIAM ZRC SAZU)
As part of the Year of Vlasto Kopač, we are organising a lecture by geographer Dr Primož Gašperič, who has explored a lesser-known area of Vlasto Kopač’s work: cartography. He began drawing maps while attending secondary school in Split, but produced most of them during the 1950s and 1960s.

As part of the 36th European Heritage Days and Heritage Week
Public Guided Tour of the Exhibition
Vlasto Kopač – With a Sense for People and Place
The Tourist Settlement on Velika Planina and Other Kamnik Projects
The tour will be led by the exhibition’s co-author, Janja Železnikar.
The European Heritage Days provide an ideal framework for presenting Kopač’s commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage. The heritage of Velika Planina and the other Kamnik projects in which the architect was involved is unique and irreplaceable. We therefore have a responsibility to preserve it for future generations.
