Zaprice Castle Museum and administration
When: 23.03.2022, from 18:00 to 19:00

Dr. Igor Sapač will present the rich architectural history of the Zaprice manor, which can be traced back to the beginning of the 14th century, as documents from 1301 mention the knight Fricel of Zaprice – de Apiz. He certainly resided in the tower, which was explicitly first mentioned in 1352.

Around 1550, the then owner George III. Lamberg decided to demolish the old medieval tower and replace it with a new one. He built it in the fashionable Renaissance style as a symbol of aristocratic power and ambition of the Lamberg family.

In the 18th century, the Zaprice manor reached the peak of building development. In 1757 it was bought by Anton Medard Wiederkehr, who decided on an ambitious renovation of the mansion and therefore took on a lot of debt. The main building of the manor was then extended with an extension and at the same time given a late Baroque appearance.

In 1878 the Zaprice manor was bought by the Viennese Joseph Schneid Treuenfeld and remained in their family ownership until 1946.

A great novelty is the digital reconstructions of the main building development phases, made by dr.Igor Sapač and mag. Sanja Spindler. A monograph on the building development of Zapric manor is also available in English language.
