Vlasto Kopač – A Sense for People and Space. The tourist settlement on Velika Planina and some other Kamnik projects.
Vlasto Kopač was connected with Kamnik, the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, and especially Velika Planina for almost his entire life. As a mountaineer, planner, and heritage conservator, he co-shaped the space between the town and the mountains: he contributed to the development of mountaineering and the mountain rescue service, helped rebuild mountain huts after the war, and in 1946 designed and co-created the bivouac below Mount Skuta. He also designed several monuments to the fallen and prepared urban and conservation plans for Kamnik, including the regulatory plan for Mali grad.

Velika Planina became his central life’s work. He was fascinated by the simple architecture of shepherds’ huts and the way of life on the plateau, which he carefully documented. In 1957, together with local residents, he opposed the construction of large cooperative barns and advocated preserving the plateau’s original appearance. In the 1960s, as an architect, he designed a typology of wooden holiday cottages inspired by traditional shepherd dwellings. In doing so, he had a decisive influence on the development of a tourist settlement that respected the natural and cultural landscape and preserved the character of Velika Planina.

The exhibition is part of events within the project Vlasto Kopač – Creator of Space, Guardian of Heritage and Memory. The leading partners are the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik and Plečnik House (Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana), with partners including the Upper Sava Valley Museum Jesenice – Slovenian Alpine Museum, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO), the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, and the Anton Melik Geographical Institute ZRC SAZU.

Birthplace of Rudolf Maister

Maister Evening: Urh Ferlež – When Maister Sailed on the Savinja

Urh Ferlež is the author of the text and concept of a richly illustrated edition with elements of a comic. The comic When Maister Sailed on the Savinja was created as part of Maister Year 2024 in cooperation with the Central Library Celje and the Celje Grammar School. It is set in ethnically mixed Celje in the final years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, when everyday life was marked by tensions between Slovene- and German-speaking citizens. Rudolf Maister is also at the center of the story.

The narrative follows young people discovering life, first love, and school routines. Under the mentorship of an already established poet, they create their first literary works and publish them in an “illegal” newspaper. The story concludes during the First World War, bringing police investigations and a tragic end for some of the young creators.

Opening of a Photography Exhibition
DUŠAN LETNAR
Kamnik-based photographer Dušan Letnar (born 1952) has devoted most of his creative work to analog photography. Since 2005, he has been a member of the Kamnik Photo Club and other professional associations. In recent years, his work has focused primarily on documenting disappearing industrial heritage and the rich ethnographic legacy of both the town and the countryside.

This exhibition will be one of the most extensive and comprehensive presentations of his exceptionally rich photographic oeuvre to date. It will feature key selections from his most recognizable photographic series, as well as entirely new works currently in preparation.
