Announcement of a new exhibition - Josip Germ

From Wednesday, October 14, the Miha Maleš Gallery will host a visiting exhibition of  Dolenjski muzej Novo mesto – Josip Germ, a representative of the realistic way of painting, as he strived for the greatest possible technical perfection in his paintings and remained thematically traditional.

An exhibition of Germ’s works was set up at by Dolenjski muzej on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the painter’s birth. The exhibition continues between the museum cooperation between  Dolenjski muzej Novo mesto and the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik – Miha Maleš Gallery.

For the purpose of wider testimony, the exhibition is designed to show the artistic creation of Josip Germ in a general overview and is a kind of synthesis of all his painting efforts, adequate to the known and accessible material. Selected works from an otherwise rather homogeneous oeuvre shed light on his painting development, as they show his beginnings, responses to contemporary European trends at the turn of the century and his creation, when he devoted himself less and less to painting due to his pedagogical work and versatile activity.

There will be no official opening of the exhibition. The exhibition will be on view from 14 October to 26 November 2020.
