Vlasto Kopač (1913-2006), A Visonary Mind from the Banks of Ljubljanica

From Monday, 27 July, to Thursday, 27 August, a new outdoor exhibition dedicated to Vlasto Kopač will be on display along Krakovo Embankment (Krakovski nasip) in Ljubljana.

The exhibition consists of a series of outdoor panels and is located just a few steps from the historic Zois Mansion, where Kopač lived and worked throughout his life. He was one of the most versatile creative figures in 20th-century Slovenia—an architect and student of Jože Plečnik, conservationist, designer, illustrator, cartographer, mountaineer, and a devoted guardian of the country’s natural and cultural heritage. Through his broad vision and unwavering dedication, he helped preserve countless stories, artefacts, plans, monuments, and records that might otherwise have been lost to time.

To present the remarkable diversity of his creative legacy—from architecture and design to mountains, heritage, and memory—museum, heritage, and research institutions that preserve his rich legacy have joined forces to create this exhibition. Marking the 20th anniversary of his death, it is one of several events taking place throughout the year in his honour.

The exhibition invites us to rediscover a man who not only shaped the spaces around us but also understood them, protected them, and knew how to listen to them.
