Opening of the Group Exhibition Art on Postcard

Gallery View
When: 19.06.2026, from 19:00 to 20:00

“Why a postcard? Perhaps as a nostalgic reminder of a time when we still sent handwritten messages from our travels, celebrations, or even ordinary everyday journeys. A time when, to write a few lines of greeting, we would pick up a pen, choose an image that spoke to us, and dedicate a moment of our attention to someone else. Sometimes we wrote only a few words in the small space available; at other times, almost an entire story, a fleeting moment of the day, or even a deeply personal thought. Postcards travelled from person to person, crossing borders and distances, carrying far more than an image of a place—they carried traces of relationships, time, and memory. This is precisely why the postcard seems especially compelling as an artistic medium today. It invites us to slow down and reconsider the meaning of the image, the message, and the physical presence of an object. Its small scale demands conciseness of expression, careful selection of subject matter, and precision of execution. Although modest in format, it can convey exceptionally powerful content.

The open call for participation in this exhibition stems from a desire to connect and include creators from different generations, backgrounds, and artistic practices. The exhibition is therefore conceived as a shared, non-hierarchical platform for artistic expression, where established artists and those just beginning their creative journey are given equal space. The postcard, as a simple, accessible, and universally recognisable format, enables broad participation and encourages a diversity of artistic approaches and interpretations…”

The open call attracted an exceptional number of artistic postcards (approaching 300 in total), featuring a wide range of themes and artistic techniques. The submissions were made by 154 artists from Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, and even Morocco.
