Medobčinski muzej Kamnik cordially invites you to a
Public Guided Tour of Kamnik Cemetery (Žale)
on Saturday, 30 May 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Meeting point: at the memorial to the fallen of the First World War
As part of the Week of European Cemeteries (European Cemeteries Heritage Days), which takes place every year in late May and early June to highlight the cultural, artistic, historical, and architectural value of cemeteries, we invite you to join a public guided tour of the Kamnik cemetery.
During the walk, we will present the history of the church and cemetery, as well as their artistic and historical significance. Special attention will be devoted to selected tombstones of prominent citizens of Kamnik and to artworks by renowned artists who helped shape the appearance of the cemetery. We will also visit the public memorial dedicated to those who fell in the First World War and shed light on its historical significance in its spatial and historical context.
The tour will offer an opportunity to view the cemetery from a different perspective — as a place of remembrance, heritage, art, and stories of the people who left a mark on Kamnik.
The tour will be led by members of the study group Once Upon a Time in Kamnik at the Medobčinski muzej Kamnik: Tina Petek Steinbücher, Ludvik Travnik, Zdenka Travnik, Marko Kumer, and Zora Torkar.
You are warmly invited.
