Jon Derganc – Time Is Needed for Reflection
The exhibition Time Is Needed for Reflection by artist Jon Derganc brings together several diverse artistic approaches into a unified project. In these works, the artist addresses the question of the position and meaning of art in contemporary times, marked by the constant production and consumption of images. In a world where visuals are continuously present across various media, the artist raises the question of what can still emerge in art and what possibilities remain for creating something not yet seen. In his works, Derganc uses photography, which he manipulates and thereby distances from its documentary function. The monochrome also plays an important role, through which he explores the relationship between painting and photography, blurring the boundaries between the two media.
Jon Derganc lives and works in Ljubljana. He graduated in 2011 from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana and completed his Master’s degree in 2014 in Kolkata, India. He primarily works in the medium of photography, both on film and in digital form. Through his work, he explores the limits of photography’s ability to objectively represent the world and seeks to transform photographic representation into a new—photographic—reality. He has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (Lightroom project, 2024), Moderna galerija (A Space with the Potential for Movement, 2024), and Gallery Equrna (Too Close, Too Far, 2021; Colors, 2023; Mannerisms, 2025).
