THE CHARM AND BEAUTY OF BENTWOOD FURNITURE FROM THONET TO TODAY
From the collections of the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik and the private collection of Jurij and Ilona Rihar.

The exhibition of selected bentwood furniture pieces from the Kamnik Intermunicipal Museum collection and the private collection of Jurij and Ilona Rihar opens a window into a world where wood yields to form yet retains its natural qualities. At its centre stands the visionary Michael Thonet, who in the mid-19th century united craftsmanship, technical innovation, and industrial logic into a perfect whole. His technique of bending solid wood made serial production possible and gifted the world the timeless Chair No. 14. Thonet became a pioneer of modern design.
The exhibition also reveals the rich heritage of bentwood furniture factories in Slovenia, with a focus on the factory in Duplica near Kamnik, which left a significant mark on both local and broader industrial history.
Exhibition curators: Zora Torkar and Jurij Rihar

Opening of a guest exhibition from the Dolenjska Museum
MAJA POLJANC – Hortus conclusus

Maja Poljanc is the author of the first illustrated encyclopedia of Slovenian mythological beings, a major step toward filling the gaps in the visual representation of the Slovenian mythological pantheon. The exhibition presents 32 original illustrations of mythological creatures.

Slavic – and more specifically Slovenian – mythology is rich in deities that originate from the Slavic mythical consciousness and are most often connected with various aspects of nature.

Since completing her studies at the Academy, Maja Poljanc has confidently tackled the challenge of pure book illustration. By successfully combining a contemporary artistic expression with reminiscences of the past and elements of folk art, she increasingly collaborates with various Slovenian writers (novels by Sebastijan Pregelj and Julija Lukovnjak, selected poems by Svetlana Makarovič, and choreo-poems by Katja Gorečan).
The artist and her works will be presented by guest curator Katarina Dajčman.

Anamaria Bagarić – They Say

Choreography and performance: Anamaria Bagarić
Production: KUD Oksimoron

They Say is a contemporary dance performance rooted in raw expression and an honest attempt at movement without apology. The work draws inspiration from Monique Wittig’s Les Guérillères: “They say they consider their bodies as a whole.” The piece explores the perception and experience of the body when its fragments are rearranged, reshaping the meanings they carry.

Anamaria Bagarić is a dance educator, choreographer, and performer. She entered the world of dance through the collective Kjara’s Dance Project, where she performed as a young dancer. In Egypt, she presented her first solo work Dark Matter(s) and collaborated with the Cairo Opera House and the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center. In 2019, she graduated from the Academy of Dance, majoring in Contemporary Dance. She regularly collaborates with the physical theatre collective Fourklor and works project-based with established Slovenian choreographers and directors in the fields of contemporary dance and theatre. She is the author of the performances Prizma (2019), Coffee, Black (2022), and Too Much of Me Hides in the World, Too Much of the World Hides in Me (2024).

The project is created in collaboration with the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik and supported by the Municipality of Kamnik.
