MAKS BERGANT AND PLEČNIK: The Magic of Wood
The tour will be led by Tina Petek Steinbücher.
The exhibition sheds light on the joint creative oeuvre of Kamnik’s master woodcarver Maks Bergant (1912–1996) and the later works of architect Jože Plečnik. Bergant, who learned his craft in Kamnik under master Ivan Klemen, was one of the last representatives of classical master woodcarving. His collaboration with Plečnik during the post-WWII renovation of St. Benedict’s Church in Stranje played a key role in his artistic development.

The Charm and Beauty of Bentwood: Bentwood Furniture from Michael Thonet to the Present

With our new exhibition, the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik continues its mission of collaborating with private collectors — with the goal of presenting a more complete picture of our cultural heritage and encouraging care for its preservation.

This new exhibition on Thonet bentwood furniture is the result of a collaboration with Jurij and Ilona Rihar, owners of an exceptional private collection. Alongside selected items from the museum’s holdings, it offers a unique insight into one of the most iconic design achievements of the 19th and 20th centuries. On display are some of the most fascinating and valuable examples of bentwood furniture, revealing a world where wood is shaped to follow form — yet still retains its warmth, strength, and natural character.
