Opening of the painting exhibition PETRA DERGANC
Curated by Saša Bučan.

The motifs of the exhibited works include Mediterranean shrubbery and private swimming pools. At first glance, they offer a sense of freshness and the lightness of carefree moments. But soon, we begin to wonder if there is something more behind them: desires, dreams, memories, or real events.
The paintings reveal intimate moments of human lives. The human presence—i.e., the figure—is not directly visible, yet objects remind us of it from time to time: perhaps an airplane, perhaps a pair of drying swimsuits. Or maybe someone simply forgot them…

Opening of the group exhibition SO CLOSE SO FAR
Nina Koželj, Louise Winter, Oliver Pilić, and Matevž Sterle
Curated by Saša Bučan.

Through their works, the artists delve into the time in which they live and create—a time when art is too often pushed to the margins and spoken of as a parasite that yields no profit. A time in which everything is measured solely in money, which spins, turns, and often upends entire worlds.
The exhibition also questions and addresses alienation from nature, our inability to find harmony between ourselves and the natural world, as well as the individual’s estrangement from themselves. It explores the growing awareness of how far this alienation has brought us, especially in recent decades.
The artists examine and explore what defines their inner existence—what drives them to create, to be imaginative, and to see the world around them. It speaks of the tension between urban decay and natural forms, and the cyclical process of growth and decline. From dynamic and chaotic events, the creative process becomes a journey toward a state of nirvana and self-discovery.

Dr. Marko Štepec: STORIES OF MONUMENTS FROM THE FIRST WORLD WAR
Lecture and presentation of his latest book.

The First World War claimed the lives of millions of young men. Some memorials were erected by their comrades in arms amidst the chaos of war. Many Slovenian soldiers were buried far from home, in foreign lands, in unmarked graves. Their families received only a brief official notice stating that their father, husband, or son had heroically fallen for the glory of the homeland. Many carried the pain of this loss in their hearts for the rest of their lives. In their hometowns, they wished to preserve at least a small memory of them—a place to light a candle and say a prayer in peace. Thus, after the war, monuments bearing the names of fallen soldiers began to be erected in many towns.
