Collection of Kamnik and Kamnik-related artists

In the second floor of the Gallery there is a permanent exhibition, reflecting the Kamnik art history from the 18th till the 20th century in the field of sculpturing, painting, architecture and photography, from the beginning of artistic creativity in Kamnik, like the patronage of Josip Nikolaj Sadnikar, the creativity of the Koželj family and of the artists of the 20th century, such as Ivan Vavpotič, Miha Maleš, Stane Cuderman, Jakob Savinšek, Ferdo Mayer, Leon Homar, Aladin Lanc and Dušan Lipovec. The aim of the exhibition is to introduce the works of art, saved in depots, and complete them with works from private collections. Actually, by the exhibition, we would like to lay stress upon the significance of the collection of Kamnik artists, which is alive and constantly complemented, and to make a point of the meaning of preserving and respecting the artistic creativity in various fields.

    Miha Maleš’s Collection

Miha Maleš is a great name in Slovenian art. He was one of the most important figures in Slovenian artistic life and besides his various artistic activities he is marked also by the other side of his character. He was a great collector of works of art, initiator and leader of artistic group the Fourth Generation, artistic organiser and a journalist. As it could be seen in his work, he was a very sensitive person and he knew how to join all these artistic fields of activity in harmony. The permanent collection comprises his works of art and documentary photos, kept in the Miha Maleš Gallery.
